On March 3, 2011, a very skinny pit bull gave birth to 11 puppies; one was stillborn. On March 16, 2011, the mom and her pups were rescued by Rugaz Rescue and brought to us. The pups all found their forever homes a couple of months later. Heidi was heartworm positive, and lived with us until mid-2012 when she was adopted by a lady in south Florida. This blog is the story of Heidi and Her Pups.

Heidi continues her motherly ways
For the first time in what seems like months, we have a wet morning here in Tampa. Our cat, Mewes, came running in from the rain and sat beside me to being grooming himself. Heidi joined in to help.

Working with Heidi for the CGC, May 5
On May 5, I started working more with Heidi on items that are required for her Canine Good Citizen evaluation. There are ten steps that a dog must complete to be CGC certified (from the AKC):
- Accepting a friendly stranger
- Sitting politely for petting
- Appearance and grooming
- Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead)
- Walking through a crowd
- Sit and down on command and Staying in place
- Coming when called
- Reaction to another dog
- Reaction to distraction
- Supervised separation
Patches heads to his forever home!
Patches was adopted on May 15. Hopefully his new owners will share pictures!

Monday May 16, Heidi's showing some weight
The puppies have been gone for almost a week. Heidi looked around as soon as she returned from the vet, saw that the pups weren't here, and went on about her way. Pups are gone and she's spayed, and she is acting no different now than she was four weeks ago.
Here are two pics that show her weight gain. Fewer bones!

Tuesday May 10, 2011 update
Tippy was the first to be adopted. Velveteen was second, but the adopters really wanted a boy, so they swapped Velveteen for Freckles. Piggy and Romeo are in a foster home, and we got Albert, Canada, Emma, Patches, Juneau and Velveteen back after they were fixed. On Wednesday May 11, the six will head off to their new foster home.
