A Tippy update!

A few days ago, we received the following email.

I adopted one of Heidi's puppies "Tippy"- who is now Bailey! Last week marked 3 years with our wonderful addition to the family and it got me thinking about Heidi & the other pups, wanting to see if they all found forever homes. Anyway, I stumbled back onto this blog and was happy to see that it seems like they all did :)! I just wanted to say that this blog was really awesome when we were making the decision to adopt a second dog, so thank you!!

Needless to say, we were SO excited to get this email.  Hopefully we'll hear from other adopters, too.  If we get more pictures, we'll post.

Heidi was adopted in August 2012 by a lady in south Florida who had recently lost her senior pittie.  We wish we had updates and pictures, but the only update we ever received was that she was a perfect fit and the new owner loves her.  It really sucks that we have no idea how the puppies are.

Heidi and Mewes the cat

Heidi lives with two dogs and four cats.  The cats are 1, 2, 5, and 20 years old.  Three of the cats ignore Heidi and she in turn ignores them.  Mewes, the 2-year old, often plays with Heidi as you can see in these two videos.  Heidi just lies there and takes the abuse!

Before Heidi can go out of the door, or eat, she must give eye contact and wait for the release word (Free).

Heidi continues her motherly ways

For the first time in what seems like months, we have a wet morning here in Tampa.  Our cat, Mewes, came running in from the rain and sat beside me to being grooming himself.  Heidi joined in to help.

Freckles! aka Jerry Lee, June 15, 2011

We received an email from Freckles new family.  They've renamed him Jerry Lee and he is doing great!  We're hoping they'll keep sending us pictures and when they do, I'll post them.

Working with Heidi for the CGC, May 5

On May 5, I started working more with Heidi on items that are required for her Canine Good Citizen evaluation.  There are ten steps that a dog must complete to be CGC certified (from the AKC):

  1. Accepting a friendly stranger
  2. Sitting politely for petting
  3. Appearance and grooming
  4. Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead)
  5. Walking through a crowd
  6. Sit and down on command and Staying in place
  7. Coming when called
  8. Reaction to another dog
  9. Reaction to distraction
  10. Supervised separation
The first two videos are working on sit with duration.  The third video is more food routine work (which isn't part of CGC).

Patches heads to his forever home!

Patches was adopted on May 15.  Hopefully his new owners will share pictures!

Monday May 16, Heidi's showing some weight

The puppies have been gone for almost a week.   Heidi looked around as soon as she returned from the vet, saw that the pups weren't here, and went on about her way.  Pups are gone and she's spayed, and she is acting no different now than she was four weeks ago.

Here are two pics that show her weight gain.  Fewer bones!

Tuesday May 10, 2011 update

Tippy was the first to be adopted.  Velveteen was second, but the adopters really wanted a boy, so they swapped Velveteen for Freckles.  Piggy and Romeo are in a foster home, and we got Albert, Canada, Emma, Patches, Juneau and Velveteen back after they were fixed.  On Wednesday May 11, the six will head off to their new foster home.
